Dental Implants

If you are looking to replace lost teeth and protect your oral health, dental implants could be the answer.

Implants provide the best crown and denture support while preventing bone atrophy in the jaw.

Dr. Jay Measells in Vicksburg, MS, uses the latest technology to provide the very best results.

What Are Dental Implants?

Implants are small titanium posts that are inserted into your jawbone to replace lost tooth roots. Once the titanium fuses with your jawbone, the implant can support artificial teeth, from a single crown to a bridge or a full denture.

Implants are the closest thing to having your natural teeth back. An important advantage of dental implants over other tooth replacement methods is that they can also stop the bone loss that occurs when you lose teeth.

Titanium implants are also long-lasting. While the artificial tooth attached to the implant will periodically need to be replaced, the implant itself can last for decades, or even a lifetime, when properly cared for.

Our dentist can place your titanium implants, as well as effective restorations like dentures and bridges. He has helped patients throughout Mississippi regain confidence in their smiles. Contact our team to learn more.

Take a Look At Implant Placement

Titanium dental implants replace tooth roots and provide your restorations with exceptional stability. Our Mississippi dentist will then create a natural-looking smile by placing an abutment and restoration onto your implant. We offer IPS e.max® lithium disilicate glass-ceramic crowns, which can replace a single tooth, as well as dentures, which can replace all your teeth.

Understanding the Cost Of Dental Implants

A single titanium dental implant at Dr. Measells' practice in Vicksburg is $1,500. An implant restored with a crown and abutment (the device that connects the implant to the restoration) costs $1,900.

It's important to note, however, that these are just estimates for the procedure and price can be influenced by a patient's unique dental needs. For example, larger restorations such as dentures cost more and require more implants. Meanwhile, some people need preparatory procedures, such as bone grafts, in order to qualify for implants.

Basic insurance does not cover the cost of implants or abutments, but most plans will contribute to the cost of dental restorations. We offer CareCredit® financing to help make any remaining out-of-pocket expenses affordable.

If You Are Missing a Tooth, You Are Not Alone

How Many Teeth Can Implants Replace?

Dental implants are versatile and can be used to support a variety of restorations. Dr. Measells in Vicksburg, MS, uses the latest in dental materials to help ensure long-lasting restorations and years of happy smiles.

Single Tooth

If you are missing one tooth, a single implant can be used to support a single artificial tooth. Dr. Measells prefers this solution over the traditional dental bridge. That's because if a bridge is used to replace one tooth, two nearby healthy teeth need to be crowned to support it.

dental bridge

Multiple Teeth

If you are missing several teeth, two implants can support a dental bridge. The beauty of this solution is that Dr. Measells will not have to alter nearby teeth to support the bridge. Implant-supported bridges also can replace more teeth than a traditional bridge.

dentures

All Teeth

Multiple implants can support a full denture, ensuring that it will never slip or cause friction against the gums like traditional dentures. Dr. Measells also offers the All-on-4 method that allows people with low bone density to qualify for implant-supported dentures.

The Bone-Saving Benefits
Of Dental Implants

When the jaw loses the stimulation the tooth root once provided, it begins to deteriorate. This deterioration can lead to adverse effects such as loose teeth, further tooth loss, and a sunken appearance around the mouth.

Receiving implants in a timely manner after tooth loss can save you from the adverse effects jawbone atrophy can have on your oral health and the potential need for bone grafting later in life.

Dental implants are the only restorative dentistry solution that can stop and prevent jawbone atrophy, provide support for restorations, and restore oral function.

What to Expect The Treatment Timeline for Dental Implants

Because dental implants and the restorations attached to them are customized for each patient, every case is unique. However, in general, the implant procedure follows this timeline:
We offer sedation options for patients who have difficulty sitting for long periods, have a sensitive gag reflex, or are anxious about oral surgery.
We offer sedation options for patients who have difficulty sitting for long periods, have a sensitive gag reflex, or are anxious about oral surgery.

Consultation

Dr. Measells will thoroughly examine your mouth and take X-rays to determine bone density in your jaw and the best positions for dental implants. Your dentist will also review your medical history. If he determines implants are a good match to your needs and goals, and you wish to move forward, he can schedule surgery.

Preparatory Treatments

Some people need preparatory treatment before implant surgery takes place. This can include treatment for gum disease, tooth extraction, or placement of bone grafts to ensure a strong foundation for the dental implant. These treatments will need to be completed before surgery can occur.

Implant Surgery

The treatment area will be numbed and, if desired, you will receive sedation. Using custom surgical guides created for your mouth, the dentist will insert the dental implants. When possible, Dr. Measells may place temporary restorations so you won't have to spend the next few months without teeth.

Healing Period

During the next three to six months, the dental implants will be left undisturbed so they can fuse with the jawbone. This process is called osseointegration.

Abutment Placement

After the implant has fused with the bone, the gums will be incised so that an abutment can be added to the implant. The abutment is used to connect the implant to the restoration. We then wait a couple of weeks for the gums to heal before attaching the restoration.

Impressions

Dr. Measells will take impressions of your mouth to help guide the design of your replacement teeth. The dentist works closely with a trusted lab to ensure the restoration looks natural and is color-matched to your other teeth so that it blends in seamlessly.

Restoration Placement

Dr. Measells will ensure your restorations look natural and feel comfortable. When you and the dentist are satisfied with the result, he will secure the restorations onto the dental implants.

Implant-supported restorations are cared for much like your natural teeth. You simply brush and floss your teeth and restorations normally, and maintain a regular appointment schedule with the dentist.
